Hello from Joe Crookston & the “Feeding The Bard” Songwriting Retreat Staff!

"Feeding The Bard," is a dynamic songwriting retreat in Ithaca, NY

designed to liberate the truths we carry and birth them into song.

(and to have a great time connecting to each other and ourselves on 200 beautiful acres)

We are thrilled to hear from fellow music lovers who are eager to explore the depth of their artistry.

This intimate gathering is led by Joe Crookston and Mike Ellis.  We are both excited to inspire, challenge, support, and nourish you every step of the way,

(and also feed you delicious food!)

We as humans need authenticity, creativity and human connection.

We will gather to renew ourselves and bring forth our best selves.

What Happens During the Retreat?

For three days, you will be fully immersed in the craft of songwriting in a safe, creative space, engaging in activities that will open your heart, refine your technique, and expand your lyrical and compositional horizons. You can look forward to honest, hands-on sessions where your original compositions will take shape, bolstered by the invaluable feedback and collaborative spirit of your mentors and peers.

What if I am a writer but not a songwriter?

Although, Joe's mastery is in songwriting, THIS WEEKEND RETREAT IS 100% OPEN TO WRITERS, POETS & CREATIVE WRITERS OF ALL KINDS (EVEN IF SONGWRITING SPECIFICALLY IS NOT YOUR FOCUS)

In addition to the expert insight and guidance you will receive during group activities, you will have ample time for personal writing in any number of quiet spaces available to you. Evenings will be aglow with the warmth of campfires, the crackling immediacy of open mics, and the groovy vibe that passionate songwriters cultivate. Before you leave, you'll have the chance to record demos of your songs in simple studio sessions with Joe and Mike guiding you through the process.
